Annapurna Adventure Trek
We explore the ancient city of Kathmandu before flying west to Pokhara, the second largest city in Nepal. From the right side of the plane, we will be able to see the whole of the Annapurna mountain range. A bus then takes us to Naya Pul, where our trek commences.
Staying in comfortable lodges along the way, we walk along the Modi Khola River and then ascend through terraced hillsides and small villages to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a village inhabited by the Gurung people, whose menfolk are famous for serving in the British Gorkha regiments. A small Gorkha museum can be found here.
The trail to Tadapani winds through forests of oak and huge rhododendron, which flower in April and May into a stunning riot of colour. Wonderful views of Annapurna South (7237m) and the holy mountain Machhapuchre (6993m) with its distinctive fishtail shape greet us.
We pass through Tadapani to Deurali. Making an early start, we ascend Gurung Hill in time to catch the sunrise over the Annapurna Range. From here, we follow an older path, formerly a trading route to Tibet, as far as Ulleri, and then downhill back to Naya Pul. A vehicle will transport us back to Pokhara, where we spend two nights. We can relax and enjoy Lake Phewa and surrounds, before traveling back to Kathmandu.
