Ghorepani Poon hill trek is one of the most popular and easiest treks in the Annapurna region which reaches an altitude of 3200 metres and just beneath the main Himalayan Range. The area is famous for its spectacular Sunrise, with views of more than ten snow covered mountains, rhododendron forests, traditional villages and ethnic communities.
Staying in comfortable lodges along the way, we walk along the Modi Khola River and then ascend through terraced hillsides and small villages to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a village inhabited by the Gurung people, whose menfolk are famous for serving in the British Gorkha regiments. A small Gorkha museum can be found here.
The route then ascends through rhododendron forest to Tadapani and then on to the high point of the trek at Deurali. Here we take an early morning excursion to a small hill(poon-hill) above our lodge to view sunrise over the central Himalayan peaks of Nepal. In fine weather this is one of the most magnificent panoramas in the entire country, as you have fantastic views of three peaks over the magical 8,000-metre mark. In the west you can see the Dhaulagiri Himal, to the north and east lie the Annapurnas, and further east is the magnificent Manaslu Himal. The return route descends along the ancient trading trail from Tibet to Naya Phul before we drive back to the beautiful lakeside town of Pokhara. The walking on this trek is gently paced and suitable for all ages, but there are definitely ups and downs, so physical preparation is essential to get maximum benefit from this great trek. It is a good trek for families and also people who want an easier walk with no altitude considerations.
